Tallit
This was my first kanfot commission, a unique six cornered tallit worn in the Kohenet lineage, for a recently ordained Kohenet. Kanfot both means wings and corners. We used a linen fabric for the base which I dyed with an ombré technique with pink (cochineal) and yellow (pomegranate). The atarah was made from the their mother’s tallit. The pasuk (verse) Min HaMeitzar is painted on with fabric marker and overlayed with an iridescent pink paint. The back panel of the atarah is made from a piece of their original tallit and embroidered with an evil eye. The embroidery motif on each corner represents the elements: earth = rosemary sprig, fire = Shabbat candles, air = wings, water = a vessel pouring. I included a special little garlic clove pocket and an archival print of the letter shin located over the heart of the wearer.
